New ‘all-plastic’ recycling facility in the pipeline for Swindon

Swindon Borough Council is working in partnership with plastic reprocessing company Recycling Technologies to assess the feasibility of a new facility, which would be capable of recycling ‘virtually all plastics’.

The facility, called an advanced plastics recycling facility, would combine mechanical techniques with Recycling Technologies’ chemical feedstock recycling machine, the RT7000, which heats non-recyclable plastics without oxygen to turn them into a crude oil equivalent.

The proposal is inspired by a research project, Project Lodestar, which assessed how waste site operators could tackle all different types of plastic in one facility. This project has already led to the developed of a similar advanced plastics facility in Scotland.
