University of Sheffield to lead £3.6m circular economy project

A new €4-million research project has been launched with support from the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation fund.

The project, called Realising the Transition to a Circular Economy (ReTraCE), is hoping to support the implementation of the Circular Economy Package, which sets out a new approach to resource use in Europe, moving away from a linear ‘take-make-dispose’ model to one where resources are used and reused again.

Led by the University of Sheffield, ReTraCE will deliver training to 15 early-stage academics over the course of 48 months, with the aim of developing greater understanding and expertise around the circular economy and how it might be implemented.
