The UK’s Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) is running a month of action to tackle the £3 billion (€3.4 billion) of food thrown away each year at hospitality and food outlets.
The Stand Up For Food month comes as part of WRAP’s Guardians of Grub campaign, and will see bars, restaurants, hotels and catering companies target food waste through the use of WRAP’s free resources. These resources include guidelines and advice to help businesses track and monitor their food waste.
Restaurants that have taken part in WRAP’s ongoing campaign have been successful in reducing their food waste. For example, Crieff Hydro Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland, has tracked its food waste using a smart meter, and was able to reduce costs relating to food waste by 43 per cent.
