Mater-Bi

Quality and performance with greater resource efficiency.

This family of bioplastics is the result of proprietary Novamont technologies developed in the field of starches, vegetable oils, and their combinations, with the aim of combining high performance, quality, and environmental sustainability.

Mater‑Bi is the result of an integrated Italian supply chain involving 3 research centers and 4 production sites, which have been regenerated and transformed into biorefineries dedicated to the production of innovative bio-products.

Mater‑Bi helps provide solutions to address specific environmental, economic, and social challenges across various sectors of application-including retail, food service, packaging, food packaging, and agriculture-balancing product quality and performance with greater resource efficiency.

Sold in the form of granules, Mater‑Bi is suitable for processing using the most common transformation technologies: film blowing, extrusion, thermoforming, extrusion and lamination coating, and injection molding.
All Mater‑Bi grades are biodegradable and compostable in accordance with the European standard UNI EN 13432*, the most important technical reference for compostable material manufacturers, public authorities, composters, certifiers, and consumers.

The plant-based content of the different Mater‑Bi grades varies according to market demands, can exceed 40% and reach up to 100% in specific applications. **

Mater‑Bi is the result of an advanced bioeconomy model capable of creating value for the local area, optimizing resource use, and fostering the transition towards a more circular economy. Today, Mater‑Bi represents a true catalyst for industrial transformation, promoting an innovative approach based on research, innovation, and more sustainable development.

** Novamont expresses the bio-based content of its Mater‑Bi grades as a percentage of biogenic carbon out of total carbon. This amount is directly measurable through radiocarbon analysis, regulated by the EN 16640 standard.

Sustainability and transparency

Mater‑Bi bioplastic also stands out thanks to its verified Carbon Footprint. In fact, thanks to the ISO14067 certification obtained by Novamont, the environmental impact of Mater‑Bi products is measured and quantified in a clear and transparent manner.
Novamont is also committed to rigorous verification to ensure that products bearing the Mater‑Bi brand meet the quality and performance standards necessary for the correct production and functionality of the final applications.

Partnership

Choosing Mater‑Bi bioplastic means counting on a dynamic partnership based on the mutual exchange of knowledge, technological support, and the sharing of innovations, with the constant goal of improving product performance and reducing environmental impact.

These elements form the foundation of a solid and mutually valuable partnership, oriented towards responding in a more responsible and cutting-edge way to changing market needs.
