Defra commits to halving residual waste per person by 2042

Defra has announced several legally binding targets, including a plan to reduce residual waste per person by 50 per cent by 2042. The department says it hopes that the plan will leave ‘our natural world in a better state for future generations’.

This forms a part of 25 Year Environment Plan and a full outline of the commitment, including interim targets, will be announced in January next year.

The targets were scheduled for release in October 2022, with Defra being criticised for the delay.
