Reconomy, a provider of waste management and recycling services, has acquired Ecosurety’s UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Batteries Compliance Schemes. This acquisition expands Reconomy’s compliance activities and services in the UK, covering over 1,000 customers, including high-profile companies like Virgin Media and Morrisons. The deal also enhances Valpak’s services and brings manufacturers and distributors into their existing operations. Ecosurety will continue to focus on its data and packaging arms, furthering its support for packaging sustainability and environmental compliance.
The WEEE scheme allows businesses to report waste weight placed on the market, ensuring accurate data and funding for waste collection, treatment, and retrieval, particularly if it exceeds the five-tonne threshold. The batteries scheme supports battery producers and distributors by reporting the weight of batteries in the UK market and helping finance their collection, treatment, and recovery, aligning with recycling targets. Reconomy aims to strengthen its environmental compliance efforts and become a leading international player in the circular economy.
