Compostable Mater-Bi - paper laminated products
Combining Mater-Bi with paper offers several advantages: it allows proper disposal of food-contaminated products in the organic waste stream, reducing landfill and incineration; it helps prevent contamination from non-compostable materials; it can be recycled with paper without causing issues for recycling facilities; and it enhances the renewability and biodegradability of both materials while preserving the performance of the final product. Some applications of compostable Mater-Bi paper-laminated products include trays for delicatessen and ready meals, counter paper for food, and cups for food service and vending.
Mater-Bi film for packaging
With Mater-Bi, it is possible to produce high-barrier compostable films (compliant with European standard EN 13432), available in transparent, lacquered, or metallized versions.
These films deliver outstanding barrier performance, comparable to traditional multi-material laminates that are typically non-recyclable. Oxygen transmission rate (OTR) and water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) are minimized and kept near zero, even under challenging temperature and humidity conditions.
Mater-Bi compostable stick pack
Mater-Bi is also suitable for producing Mix-Me compostable stick packs for the pharmaceutical sector. This innovative packaging combines paper with Mater-Bi film, making it compostable in compliance with EN 13432 and containing more than 65% bio-based raw materials.
Compostable MATER-BI food service products are the ideal solution for collective and commercial catering, events, and catering services, making waste management easier, especially in situations where washing and reusing traditional tableware is not feasible or practical. The MATER-BI food service range includes cutlery, cups, plates, bowls, straws, dessert cups and spoons, and cup lids.
All compostable Mater-Bi food service products are food contact safe and heat resistant. The compostable plates are microwave-safe, while the cutlery, made with a new grade of Mater-Bi, offers enhanced impact and pressure resistance without breaking or cracking, ensuring practical and safe use even under heavy-duty conditions.
Thanks to their biodegradability and compostability, MsI compostable food service products can be disposed of in organic waste collection and sent to composting facilities for organic recycling. All MATER-BI food service applications contain at least 60% renewable raw materials, in compliance with current regulations.
