Mulch Film
The soil-biodegradable mulch film made from Mater-Bi bioplastic has been used for over 20 years by farmers seeking a versatile, practical solution suitable for different environmental conditions. It supports the management of both short- and long-cycle crops, as well as crops that cannot be traditionally mulched.
How to use Mater-Bi soil-biodegradable mulch film
01
Soil preparation
The soil should be carefully prepared, refining it as much as possible and removing stones or residues from previous crops (e.g., maize stalks).
02
Laying and transplanting
The film is laid and perforated using the same machinery employed for conventional plastic mulch films, taking care to reduce tension on the film. Laying and mechanical transplanting can be carried out simultaneously.
03
Agronomic performance
It ensures excellent field performance in weed control, as well as high agronomic yield and product quality.
04
End of cycle
At the end of the cropping cycle, it does not need to be collected or disposed of. It is incorporated into the soil, where it biodegrades into carbon dioxide, water, and biomass.
Discover all of Novamont’s solutions for agriculture
Not just mulch films! Thanks to Novamont’s continuous research and innovation, solutions dedicated to the agricultural sector have been developed to help solve specific issues related to the end-of-life of certain products, minimize the risks of product dispersion into ecosystems, or reduce the use of certain molecules with high environmental impact.
Novamont’s solutions for agriculture—such as soil-biodegradable mulch films, and compostable twines and clips made from our Mater‑Bi bioplastic—help simplify agricultural waste management. Thanks to their ready biodegradability, biodegradable biolubricants and plant protection products help reduce the presence of pollutants in soil and water within application sectors where environmental dispersion is certain or highly probable.
